VINALHAVEN, Maine — An earthquake was reported off the coast of Maine Tuesday morning.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the earthquake as a 2.5 magnitude about 4 miles southwest of Vinalhaven, an island in Penobscot Bay.

It happened around 3:49 a.m. Tuesday.

The USGS has a self-report tool called " Did You Feel It? " which collects earthquake data from first-hand accounts. As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, there were 19 reports submitted to the USGS from those who felt the quake throughout the midcoast. Reports came from towns such as Camden, Rockland, Thomaston, and Deer Isle.

Earthquakes typically only begin to cause damage when magnitudes reach the 4-5 range, according to the USGS .
