BUENA VISTA TWP, MI — Buena Vista Township officials will honor a late community leader by attaching his name to a facility where he impacted the lives of youths for years.

At a Monday, Aug. 25, meeting, the Buena Vista Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously to rename the Buena Vista Community Center after Duane Fairris.

Fairris, who died three days earlier at the age of 66 , for years served as the Buena Vista Township Parks and Recreation director. He also once served as coach for the Buena Vista High School girls basketball team.

Township Superintendent Torrie L. Lee proposed renaming the facility at 1940 Outer Drive to honor Fairris’s legacy of service to local youth through mentoring, coaching and leadership in Buena Vista Township and across Saginaw County.
