YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - YSU's plan to expand into Jefferson County is moving forward.

President Bill Johnson says after months of work, there is "a framework" in place to eventually reopen the Eastern Gateway Community College campus in Steubenville.

Johnson said he's cautiously optimistic that the university could be offering classes there as early as the spring semester. The key will be obtaining the needed funding to support the campus from the state.

Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC) closed its campuses almost two years ago because of financial problems. Many of the students there have since transferred to YSU.
