PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — Jim Murray, the former general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles who helped build the franchise’s first Super Bowl contender and co-founded the inaugural Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia, has died at age 87, the Philadelphia Eagles confirmed .
Murray began his career as a member of the Eagles’ public relations staff in 1969 and rose to become general manager in 1974, the team said. Over the next eight years, he helped guide the team to four consecutive playoff appearances, including their first Super Bowl berth at the end of the 1980 season, the team added.
