Two City of London Aldermen are to be re-elected unopposed after no other candidates were nominated to contest the seats.

Aldermen Vincent Keaveny and Sir Charles Bowman will retain their Farringdon Within and Lime Street wards with the 'elections' to be held on September 10, and will become the 47th and 48th Court of Common Council members to secure a seat this year without any actual votes cast.

Asked about the lack of alternative candidates, a City of London Corporation spokesperson said it actively encourages people to stand for election and that its most recent voter engagement campaign "delivered the Square Mile's highest registration figures in a decade".
