If Friday night is any indication, Righetti senior quarterback Nick Matautia is going to be a handful for opposing defenses to deal with for the rest of this season.

Matautia threw for 246 yards and five touchdowns in Righetti's 56-0 rout of Santa Maria at Santa Maria's Ralph Baldiviez Stadium in the season opener for both teams. Matautia threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Luke Miller on the third play from scrimmage to start the scoring.

A pre-game moment of silence was held in honor of the late Walt McCarthy who coached at Santa Maria, Righetti and Pioneer Valley for three decades. The Santa Maria Hall of Fame Class of 2025 was honored at halftime.
