BROOKLYN — City marshals carried out 11,253 household evictions in New York City in the first seven and a half months of 2025, averaging about 1,500 per month, according to Gothamist and Hellgate . This represents the highest average since 2018.

Brooklyn Housing Court, located on Livingston Street, has been at the center of the surge as tenants line up daily to fight eviction orders. Since 2017, Brooklyn has recorded 32,500 evictions, second only to the Bronx, city data shows.

Statewide eviction moratoriums in place during the pandemic temporarily halted proceedings, but filings and court appearances have returned to full scale.

Once a housing court case ends, tenants have 14 days to vacate before marshals enforce removal.
