SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — College is expensive, but LSU Shreveport (LSUS) is part of an effort to make it more affordable, and they are the best in the state.

The university is part of the Affordable Learning LOUISiana initiative, a program in which the state's libraries partner to offer and create open-access materials.

Open access materials, free textbooks and learning resources, can be crucial for students. That is why David Gaither, the LSUS scholarly communications and analytics librarian, leads the effort to promote those resources. Those efforts saved LSUS students $4.7 million last school year, the most of any school in the state.
