Neighbors and a local utility company are disputing the findings of an investigation into an explosion that leveled an Albemarle County house, killed a woman, injured a man and severely damaged at least a dozen nearby properties.

While a residential propane tank was likely the cause of the destruction, the man and woman at the house were not there checking on gas but water, they say.

The claim runs counter to an Albemarle County Fire Rescue investigation that concluded the late Justine Joscelyne and a still unidentified man had stopped by the house "to assist in locating the source of the gas smell" while the homeowners were out of the country.

Neighbors say the 76-year-old Joscelyne was smart enough not to enter a gas-filled house.
