Officials have released the identity of the pilot who died Friday when his plane crashed at Bangor International Airport.

Luigi Accusani, 74, of Italy, was killed when his private plane crashed while attempting to land at the airport, according to police.

Accusani had been cleared to land at the Bangor airport after arriving from Goose Bay, Newfoundland, Canada.

He was the only occupant of the plane.

It was approximately 1:21 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, when the plane went down just off the runway, outside the fence at Bangor International Airport.

The crash is under investigation.
