Candace Parker had her No. 3 jersey retired by the Chicago Sky this week, and paid emotional tribute to the city and its fans.

Parker, who was raised in the area and attended Naperville Central before her legendary WNBA career, brought the house down at Wintrust Arena with her speech, paying tribute to the city, its fans and her teammates along the way.

During the remarks, she spoke of having a “Midwest Mindset” during her playing career, but that above all else, she learned what home was as she made her basketball journey.

“My heart will always belong to the state of Illinois, the city of Naperville, and the city of Chicago. It’s not just where I’m from, but it’s the core of who I am, and that’s what home is,” she said.
