CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Wide receiver Hunter Renfrow hadn't given any thought to being cut after the Carolina Panthers wrapped up their preseason last week.

The 2021 Pro Bowl selection was forced to on Tuesday when the Panthers released the 29-year-old, who was making a comeback from ulcerative colitis that forced him to miss the 2024 season after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders .

Renfrow dropped from 185 pounds to 150 while being treated for the chronic digestive disease that causes inflammation and sores in the innermost lining of the large intestine. He was ready to give up football completely until Dabo Swinney, his coach at Clemson, convinced him to make a comeback.
