SALT LAKE CITY — The mission president for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who was shot in Mexico City earlier this month has released a statement with his wife, thanking people for their support and calling the outcome of the ordeal a “miracle.”
R. Tyler Wallis, president of the Mexico City West Mission, was shot Aug. 16 around 2 a.m. during an attempted robbery at his home, the faith previously said.
He and his wife, Sister Elizabeth Wallis, elaborated on what happened in a joint statement Monday. They said a “struggle ensued” when an “armed intruder” entered their home.
“The intruder fired two shots at point blank range,” President and Sister Wallis said. “One of those 9mm rounds entered Tyler’s body in the center of his upper abdomen and exited his body near his h
