New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore on Tuesday named Spencer Rattler the team's starting quarterback for its season opener Sept. 7 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Moore chose Rattler, a second-year player out of South Carolina, over rookie Tyler Shough , the Saints' second-round pick from Louisville in this year's draft. Rattler was 0-6 as a starter in relief of the injured Derek Carr last season. When Carr retired and Shough was drafted in April, it opened the Saints' first true quarterback competition since 2021, when Jameis Winston beat Taysom Hill for the starting job.
