FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) – A Safe Haven Baby Box, which gives parents who can't care for their newborns a place to surrender their child, has been installed in Farmington.

The box is located at Farmington Fire Station #6, 3101 W. Main St. When a newborn is placed inside the box, silent alarms alert first responders. The child is then attended to in under five minutes and taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.

This marks the 11th Safe Haven Baby Box installed in New Mexico and follows one that was recently installed in Artesia. The boxes have also been installed across the country. For a list of boxes, click here.
