It really says a lot about the bizarre state of American culture that upon seeing the news that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged, one of the first thoughts many people had was “It’s only a matter of time before the president says something nasty about them.”

Indeed, less than two hours after the couple announced their engagement, Donald Trump had commented. But he was … weirdly nice? Here’s what Trump said when asked about the biggest celebrity news story of the year during a Cabinet meeting:

Sure, “I wish them a lot of luck” could be read as Good luck … you’re going to need it! But calling Kelce a “great guy” and Swift a “terrific person” doesn’t really support that interpretation.
