ELK GROVE, Calif. —

Walking to school just got a whole lot brighter in one Elk Grove neighborhood. Colorful crosswalks are now catching eyes near two schools and a library.

An asphalt art mural now graces the intersection at Franklin High Road and Hewitt Way. The intersection is located near Toby Johnson Middle School, Franklin High School and the Franklin branch of the Sacramento County Public Library.

The design incorporates a multi-color crayon theme and has transportation and safety elements, according to the city of Elk Grove, which spearheaded the project using gas tax funding as part of a pilot program.
