Hundreds of new teachers converged on the Barclays Center Tuesday, a week before they’ll report to classrooms around the city.

Asked what he was most excited about, new teacher Jude Carluen joked: “That cellphone ban!”

“I’m just playing, but definitely I'm most excited to connect with the students I'll be meeting and developing relationships with,” he said.

Carluen will be teaching high school math in the Bronx, the same borough where he attended high school. He’ll be joining the nation’s largest public school system as it rolls out a new ban on cellphones — and he’ll be teaching Algebra 1 as the city continues using a new, universal high school math curriculum.

“I know that's got some controversy, some contention. But, you know, change comes and we've got to adapt,” he said.
