Traffic fatalities in D.C. are the lowest they’ve been in 12 years, the Department of Transportation said, crediting road redesigns and other measures.

DDOT numbers released Tuesday show a 57% decrease in traffic deaths compared to last year. Here’s a look at the data:

DDOT said it’s slowing down drivers with flex posts, intentional turn lanes, bike lanes and bus lanes.

Drivers told News4 traffic cameras are getting them to slow down too.

“Nobody wants to pay $100 for a ticket,” one driver said.

“It’s starting to pay off,” DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum said.
