Montana’s GOP federal delegation asked President Donald Trump to impose a 50% tariff on all imports of Russian palladium, a precious metal, in an effort to help the company whose mine outside Columbus produces more palladium and platinum than any other in the country.

The delegation sent Trump a letter on Aug. 21 urging the imposition of tariffs, alleging Russia is committing “ongoing market manipulation and dumping” and that the palladium produced at the Sibanye-Stillwater mine is a critical part of the supply chain and important to national security.
