Former Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
The Rangers right-hander was diagnosed with a rotator cuff strain and will likely miss the remainder of the season, according to Texas president of baseball operations Chris Young.
The hard-throwing 35-year-old was in the midst of a dominant 2025 season. In 22 starts, Eovaldi went 11-3 with a 1.73 ERA and 0.854 WHIP across 130 innings. Both the WHIP and ERA would have been the best marks of his career.
A World Series hero with the Red Sox in 2018, Eovaldi spent five seasons in Boston before leaving as a free agent in 2023. The starter believed he’d re-sign with the Red Sox, but ultimately wound up taking a two-year, $34 million contract with the Rangers that offseason.
