OMAHA, Neb. —

City officials said repairs to the sinkhole in downtown Omaha will start in early September.

According to the city, recent storms have "created conditions necessitating a faster fix to a problem that emerged in early January."

The Omaha Public Power District has a damaged duct line in the area that will need immediate repair, so crews are expected to start work on it on Sept. 8. OPPD is expected to be finished with repairs in late November.

During the repairs, part of 17th Street and the alley between 16th and 17th streets will be closed.

While OPPD crews begin repairs, the city will spray the foundation of the Regis building with a concrete mix because "circumstances dictate" that city officials can no longer wait for the building to finish waterproofing t
