KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - Shoppers at the Lenoir County Farmers Market are finding more than just fresh fruits and vegetables — they’re also finding a new four-legged attraction that’s drawing plenty of attention.
Her name is Murtis, a brightly painted pig statue that was recently donated anonymously to the Kinston Downtown Revitalization Committee. Since arriving, Murtis has quickly become a popular spot for photos among both kids and adults.
The addition of Murtis comes just months after a smaller pig statue, named Neausy, was placed on Blount Street. Committee leaders say the pigs are a nod to Lenoir County’s strong pork industry, and Murtis is located in the heart of where the annual Kinston BBQ Festival is held.
