LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Supporters of a popular wildlife refuge protested then-plans to euthanize 22 orphaned fawns.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife confirmed late Tuesday that staff “humanely euthanized more than 20 deer being illegally held at the unpermitted Meade County facility in violation of a state regulation in place to limit the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) ."

Before Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officials confirmed the euthanization, WAVE spoke to people who volunteered about the then plan for deer at Broadbent Wildlife Refuge.

People who rescue the animals questioned the need to euthanize 22 fawns that are held in captivity and show no symptoms.
