GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Impaired driving remains a major threat to roadway safety across Nebraska. With tens of thousands of visitors expected for the Nebraska State Fair, the Grand Island Police Department is partnering with the Nebraska Department of Transportation to step up enforcement against impaired drivers.
The department received a $25,000 grant from the transportation department to fund overtime patrols. The initiative includes both patrol officers and drug recognition experts working extra hours to specifically target impaired driving.
The enforcement period coincides with the Nebraska State Fair and continues through the Labor Day weekend, ending Sept. 1.
