WATERVILLE, Maine — Finding scholarships for higher education just got easier for students attending Thomas College in Waterville, as the school shares that $3 million was raised for a new scholarship fund.
The Laurie Lachance Leadership Fund was raised over the last 18 months. Thomas College Vice President of Advancement Erin Merrill said they worked vigorously to meet with donors to round up funding to support Thomas College students.
Merrill said many donors were happy to donate since an average of 73 percent of Thomas College graduates remain in the state.
"One of the selling points for so many people that donated was that they're putting money directly into the next generation of the workforce," Merrill said.
The fund is named after the college's former president, Laurie Lachance.
