A Nanaimo security guard who repeatedly shot a trespasser and kicked him in the head when he was down is facing possible prison time for the attack that left the victim in critical condition.

Todd Tiglmann is covered in scars and said he lives in fear daily, from the attack he suffered the morning of Jan. 1, 2024. On Tuesday he faced the man who did it, Jeff Benvin, at his sentencing hearing in Nanaimo.

“I don’t know if there is a justice for me because I live it everyday. That’s what I don’t think he understands. You don’t do that to somebody, and emotionally damage them and expect it to change,” Tiglmann told CHEK News outside of Nanaimo’s Courthouse on Tuesday.
