Officials who will decide the fate of a proposed casino in Coney Island heard from business leaders and community members Tuesday during a packed public hearing inside a local YMCA.
“We’ve had over 500 stakeholder meetings, 10,000 local signatures, 600 letters of support from NYCHA residents,” Robert Cornegy, a former City Council Member and founder of 610 Collective, said. “This is a community-backed proposal.”
“How do we transform and work within the existing framework that is there today and make Coney Island a year-round destination?” asked Peter McEneaney, vice president of the development firm Thor Equities.
