GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. —

Conestee Nature Preserve, still recovering from Hurricane Helene, is dealing with a weekend setback after two cash donation boxes were stolen from trail entrances Sunday night.

Staff say the thief or thieves likely waited until employees left, then sawed the heavy metal “Iron Ranger” boxes from their mounts and hauled them away. “They’re actually extremely heavy. And would be hard to grind through. I imagine it took them quite some time,” said advancement director Josh Zalabak.
