WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Walla Walla District, announced a $15 million contract with Syblon-Reid Co. for a new fish ladder at the Mill Creek Diversion Dam to improve fish passage and access to spawning habitats in Mill Creek.

The existing ladder, built in 1982, no longer meets the National Marine Fisheries Service standards, impacting steelhead, Chinook salmon and bull trout, USACE said in a release .

The project will also include enhancements to the dam's downstream stilling basin and a bypass channel for juvenile fish.

Construction is set from summer 2025 to fall 2027, with site preparations starting in September.
