COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Lexington-Richland Five School District held a virtual town hall Tuesday evening to answer community questions after a cyberattack occurred in June .

Dr. Akhil Ross, the district’s superintendent, and Jack Jupin, a cybersecurity expert, answered commonly asked questions from the community during the event.

Ross said that at this time, the district believes that this was a phishing incident that “may have come to staff that clicked on a phishing piece that has really started this incident rolling.”

Jupin spoke to his experience in the FBI, saying that phishing emails are very common.
