CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Cedar Rapids is advancing a nearly two-million dollar project to transform the old Jones Park Golf Course into a new dog park.

The Cedar Rapids City Council approved a resolution on Tuesday moving forward with the dog park project which is estimated to cost $1.8 million dollars.

Carrie Mardorf, City of Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Director, said putting in pavement, as well as installing storm sewers and other utilities is the main reason for the high cost. The majority will help pay for an access road from C Street SW along with a parking lot.

The money for the project comes from the city’s Capital Improvement Projects fund. It will not impact other park projects.
