ROCKFORD, Ill (WREX) — As the school year begins, parents capture their children's milestones in photos. However, experts urge caution when sharing these images online, emphasizing the importance of privacy to protect children's safety.
Debbie Gates from the Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling highlights the risks of revealing too much information.
"We don't want to post a picture that necessarily has their name on the cute boards where we're posting the name of the school, the name of their teacher, their name, their grade," Gates said. "People can use that information against you or your child."
Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana advises starting with privacy settings to control who sees your posts.
"Make sure, what are your settings. What are your privacy settings?" Caruana said.
