ROCKFORD, Ill. — Rockford Public Schools 205 confirmed Tuesday that some classrooms at Lewis Lemon Elementary are operating with faulty fire alarms, sparking concerns from the local teacher’s union about student safety.
“We received a call from staff at Lewis Lemon, our head [representative] there reached out on behalf of all of the staff due to a concern with fire alarms that were not working,” said Claudia Marshall, President of the Rockford Education Association.
According to RPS 205, six fire alarms at Lewis Lemon have not been functioning since Tuesday, August 19th, which is just five days since the first day of school. In a statement, the district said:
