Police are investigating after an infant was found dead Tuesday in a vehicle parked near Rockwall-Heath High School.

The Heath Department of Public Safety said officers responded to a call around 4:40 p.m. regarding an unconscious baby left inside a vehicle. When authorities arrived, the child was already dead.

Investigators believe the infant had been left in the vehicle for an undetermined amount of time while it was parked at a residence in Rockwall before being brought to the high school.

The Rockwall Police Department is leading the investigation through its Criminal Investigation Division. No additional details were immediately released.
