NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- A 13-year-old from Texas was the new deputy mayor for public safety for the day in New York City.
The current deputy mayor, Kaz Daughtry, shared a post on social media announcing Devarjaye "DJ" Daniel as deputy mayor.
DJ has been battling brain and spinal cancer, but his dream is to battle crime.
He and his dad have been traveling across the nation, realizing that dream and inspiring many along the way.
DJ has been honored by the president during a previous State of the Union address.
He and his dad also caught a boat ride with the NYPD Harbor Unit with some other stops, including his first trip to the Empire State Building.
