AMHERST, NY — State Assemblymember Karen McMahon has announced that her proposed legislation to improve cell service in East Amherst was signed into law today.
"The Town of Amherst worked diligently with our New York State leaders to address a serious gap in our communication capabilities," said Town of Amherst Deputy Supervisor Shawn Lavin.

According to Lavin, parts of East Amherst frequently experienced dead spots in cell service. Residents have previously raised concerns of the lack of public safety and emergency communications that were caused by a lack of cell service in certain areas.
The new law allows for new wireless cell towers to be constructed in the area.
