AUSTIN, Texas — The NAACP filed an injunction Tuesday seeking to block Texas’ new congressional map, arguing it undermines the state’s redistricting process and disenfranchises voters of color.

The map, recently passed by both chambers of the Texas Legislature, has not yet been signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott.

Gov. Abbott has said he will sign House Bill 4, which he hopes will give Republicans more seats in Congress.

In the filing, the NAACP claims the proposed districts amount to racial gerrymandering and would prevent Black and Latino voters from electing candidates of their choice.
