GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Senator Tammy Baldwin made an appearance in Green Bay on Tuesday, meeting with local leaders in the manufacturing industry, to push for more shipbuilding to take place in America, rather than overseas.

Right now, China is dominating the industry, taking up more than 53% of all global commercial shipbuilding just last year.

“After World War II, our nation led the world in commercial shipbuilding. That is not the story today,” Sen. Baldwin said.

Since its decline, the number of ships flying the U.S. flag and using American crews has dwindled to fewer than 80 vessels, while China operates a staggering 5,500.
