WEST LIBERTY – In just two short years, head coach Pete McMenemy has led the West Liberty University women’s soccer program to back-to-back Mountain East Conference Tournament appearances. Now, entering his third season, he believes the Hilltoppers are ready for more.
“When we came in, we focused on changing the mentality and the way we play,” McMenemy said. “Now I feel we can match up with anyone we face.”
That belief starts in goal, where Cianna Butera returns after a remarkable freshman campaign. Thrust into the starting role from day one, she made 16 starts, led the MEC in saves (115) and saves per game (7.19), and ranked among the league’s leaders in save percentage.
