Police in Thyolo have confirmed the killing of a 19-year-old, Vedede Layi, in what is suspected to be a revenge attack following the death of Harrison Mwandama, 36.
According to Masambanjati Police Public Relations Officer Amos Banda, the incident started on 25 August at a local beer hall, where Vedede allegedly stabbed Mwandama during a dispute. Mwandama later died from excessive bleeding.
In apparent retaliation, some of Mwandama’s relatives allegedly tracked down and killed Vedede.
Banda condemned the act of mob justice, warning that “anyone taking the law into their own hands will face arrest.”
The deceased men hailed from nearby villages under Traditional Authority Nsabwe Mwandama from Namuonjeza Village and Vedede from Jason Village.
