HICKMAN, Calif. —

A burn operation sparked an uncontrolled fire at a nursery in Hickman on Monday night, according to the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District.

The fire spread around 8:45 p.m. at Dave Wilson Nursery along Lake Road.

Officials said there was a burning operation with a state-approved burn box, but the fire escaped the burn box and sparked the larger fire. During the fire attack, a spot fire was sparked around 300 feet away and spread into vegetation.

The fire district said the fire was fueled by plastic products and pallets.

Video shared by KCRA 3 viewer Jena Beck showed strong, intense flames putting up a thick cloud of black smoke. The fire occurred after dark, but the flames were lighting up the area.
