A woman secretly claimed almost £20,000 on behalf of her of mother - but spent the cash herself without her parent's knowledge.

Janet Davies, 65, applied for attendance allowance from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on behalf of her elderly mum.

But her mum had no idea the application had been made or that payments were regularly being made to her account, Cheshire Police says.

Davies, from Macclesfield , would then spend the money she fraudulently received.

Chester Crown Court heard that Davies received payments totalling £19,577.45, all under the guise of benefits that were meant for her mother, from 2017 to 2021.
