The Watertown Area United Way has launched a new outdoor activity for young children called The Born Learning Trail.

The trail, at its core, consists of 10 interactive signs that are available in both English and Spanish. The primary initiative is to create opportunities for younger children to ease into school readiness, Executive Director Laura Heathcote said. The signs direct children to learn about their surroundings and demonstrates how to interact.

The trail utilizes the “watch, stop, learn and play” method to encourage young children to “build curiosity and confidence, " she said.

The activity is set up along the bike trail in McKinley Park and officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 8. The trail leads through the park and will end near an adaptive playground i
