TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)— Tropical Storm Fernand is expected to become post-tropical by tonight, the National Hurricane Center announced.

Located about 590 miles south-southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland, Fernand is moving toward the east at about 12 mph.

According to the NHC, Fernand is expected to resume an east-northeastward motion and accelerate over the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph.

A little change in strength is expected over the next 12 hours, but Fernand is still forecast to become post-tropical by tonight and open up into a trough by Thursday night, the NHC said.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
