BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Since 1854, the Bowling Green Daily News has printed newspapers in the city six days a week.
Now, that long tradition is changing after the publication announced it’s scaling back its print edition to three days a week.
“It is a sign of the times, where digital is overtaking everything," said Joe Imel, publisher of the Bowling Green Daily News. "It’s impacting every business, and ours is one of them.”
Imel said the cost of printing and sending the newspapers through USPS is rapidly increasing. In addition, 860,000 pages of its content are viewed on smartphones, outweighing content viewed through print.
“They’re on the cellphone; that’s the game-changer," Imel said. "Everybody is on the cellphone, and that’s where they read it.”
The paper will still produce daily o
