Prior to becoming the starting quarterback at LSU , Garrett Nussmeier's reputation was as a gunslinger.

He had a big arm and was never afraid to let it rip downfield. That talent and tendency were on display in the 2022 SEC Championship Game , when Nussmeier replaced an injured Jayden Daniels in the second half and uncorked a 57-yard completion and two 30+ yard touchdown passes.

The expectation heading into his first season as a starter in 2024 would be more of the same, but that didn't end up becoming the case. LSU's offense had trouble taking the top off of defenses. The vertical passing game became a weakness of the attack.
