The driver accused of hitting and killing a construction worker in Hartford has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, according to court documents.

Tommy Nguyen, 25, was driving through a construction site at the intersection of West Boulevard and South Whitney Street when he struck and killed 54-year-old Jose Diaz Nieves, according to police. It happened in June 2024 .

Nguyen initially entered a not guilty plea and claimed he had a seizure. He was also charged with driving without a license, insurance and registration.

Nguyen's grandmother and a young child were in the car as well. His attorney told a judge that Nyugen was having a medical emergency at the time of the crash.
