In Orcutt, Danielle Gerber is best know for the specialty baked goods, cupcakes, brownies and other delights she and her husband, Shawn Gerber, have created over the past decade at their Orcutt Bakery.
At Mission Hope, she’s known as Crochet Girl.
“I was at a survivor’s event earlier this year and while I was in line I heard someone say, ‘Oh my gosh! It’s Crochet Girl,” Gerber said.
The hook-and-yarn hobby became a critical creative outlet as she sat through long days of infusions for weeks upon weeks, additional treatments, and recovery from breast cancer discovered two years ago.
The creations became gifts, and donations, and decor now spotted from the infusion center to nurses' stations well beyond those walls.
