PLANT CITY, Fla. – A toddler died after a vehicle backed into him Tuesday in a Plant City driveway, according to police.

Officers responded around 10 a.m. to the 1700 block of East Ohio Street, where a woman backing out of a residential driveway had reportedly failed to observe the toddler standing behind the vehicle, the Plant City Police Department said in a news release.

The boy suffered grave injuries and died a short time later, police said.

“The Plant City Police Department shares our condolences to the affected family. They are in our prayers during this difficult time,” the agency said on social media .

The age of the boy was not released.

An investigation is ongoing.
